His strategy was to play it cool for a day, let Tam stew in her own stubborn juices. He knew her- he'd watched her dress and feed dolls as they grew up. Hell, let her rope him into tea parties- as the damn bodyguard- when she played house with her sisters. Saw the stack of Good Housekeeping magazines she thought she had hidden under her bed when he snuck into her room to hang out in high school. So he knew she wanted the same thing she did. Family she could wave under Jana’s nose, one of those squat white fences that were for decoration and not actual security around some tulips and 2.5 cubs in the yard with the dog, but not eating it. The longer he let her be, gave her less reason to buck him, the more stars would fill her eyes.

Stars, baby. This time follow the fucking stars.

So he gave her one more day- that was about all the time he could take away from his daughter. He wanted to see her, wanted her safe in his den. Had to fight the Bear to keep from challenging Tam's mom over the baby. His baby. Parked outside Anna’s house for a while, just watching, knowing his little girl was inside. The curtains twitched and a moment later the door opened, Tam’s mom coming out onto the porch, a baby in her arms.

“Al?” she called. “Do you want to come say hello?”

He took a breath. Tam would be pissed off- but he couldn’t just walk away from his baby without saying hello. He didn’t want to hurt her feelings. He parked the bike and trotted across the street and up the steps. Walked softly so his booted heels didn’t startle her.

Bright brown eyes stared at him. Drool on her chin as she chewed on her fingers.

“Hey, cub,” he said, pitching his voice low. “Lookin’ good. Nice outfit.” Girls liked to hear stuff like that, right? Especially human girls, and she was a little bit human.

Al could smell Anna’s amusement.

“Why don’t we sit and visit for a while, hmm?”

He nodded. And smiled.

Eventually he pulled off, reluctantly, Bear muttering about leaving the cub. But Anna knew what she as doing- Andra was safe with her grandmother. But damn, the sooner Tam married him and he had legal rights, the better.

Al glanced at the door as it opened, spilling fresh air into the rowdy atmosphere of his bar. And froze.

“Yedia? What the hell are you doing here?”

He stood as trouble sashayed in, butt length dark hair and Asian eyes set in a Mexican face, lips slathered in the same cherry lipstick she never took off. Ever. Even in her sleep. He knew, cause when he'd been an active member of the Blazin' Bastards gang, she'd been his bed mate on more than one occasion.

“Alphonso,” she squealed in her husky tones, throwing herself at him with a grip around his neck that would have done any Bear-leech hybrid proud. “Dios, I'm so glad I found you, Papi.
